Specialising in wood engraving, a technique pioneered in the late 18th century by Thomas Bewick and revived in the 20th, he  has recently been elected a member of the Society of Wood Engravers.

Bob also produces his own hand- made books and portfolios of prints, and is a member of the online collective He has also curated two exhibitions of artist’s books.

While showing nationally and internationally, Bob Guy is keen to maintain a strong connection with Wales and exhibits  regularly at the National Eisteddfod with Y Lle Print Gwreiddiol/The Original Print Place, a group of printmakers associated with the Regional Print Centres  -

Bob has undertaken a number of commissions for illustrations (see below), but  is currently working on two large collaborative projects: “Siwrnai Bob/ Bob’s Journey”, a series of wood engravings with hand-cut text- a poem written by the celebrated “bard” (and neighbour) Robin Hughes. These prints will ultimately be bound, and with the English text type-set, by George Miller of Oswestry.

The other project is a collaborative exhibition at MOMA Wales in Septenber 2014, curated by Kim Dewsbury, around the subject of Arenig Fawr, a mountain of some grandeur, near Bala. Painted obsessively by Augustus John, Derwent Innes and J.D.Innes in 1909, Bob will be exploring the landscape through the medium of wood cut-using the technique of water-based printing on sized Japanese paper.

Collaborations have become increasingly important over the past decade: Childe Roland, a Canadian sound poet living in Llangollen contributed a poem for “Sweeny Agonistes”, and Bob has made a number of graphic interpretations of the poet’s work, experimenting with embossed text.
